What is Impedance Cardiography (ICG)?
Impedance Cardiography (ICG) uses sensors placed on the neck and chest to measure how well blood is flowing. Current will take the path of least resistance which is typically fluid, and in this case blood that is in the aorta. Your Doctor will be able to calculate how well your heart is working and how much vascular resistance there is with each heart beat.

How is an Impedance Cardiography (ICG) done?
4 Special dual leads are applied to the chest and neck, along with a blood pressure cuff to measure cardiac activity.

How long will the test take?
Setup takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

How do I prepare for the test?
There is no special preparation for the test. However, if you smoke tobacco please do not smoke for 4 hours before the test as this may cause abnormal results.

Can I eat before this test?
Yes.

What should I wear?
If possible, wear a shirt that can be easily removed while you wear your skirt or pants. One-piece clothing and dresses are not recommended. A hospital pajama top will be provided.

What should I bring to the test?
You do not need to bring anything for this test.

Will I be able to drive home?
Yes.

Should I take my medications?
If you have questions about medications you are taking, ask your doctor.

When will I get my test results?
The results of your test will be sent to your doctor who will discuss them with you.

After the test:
If you experience pain, shortness of breath, or weakness, call your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room for help.

Is an appointment required?
Yes.

On the day of the test:
On the day of the test you may go directly to Queen's Heart, on the 3rd floor of the Pauahi Building, located directly above the Emergency Room.
